Scope and Content Cell door inside Banff Town-house, Aberdeenshire Banff Town-house accommodated the town and county councils. The steeple replaced a dangerous one demolished in 1762. The main building replaced the old 16th-century tolbooth which was also demolished in 1794. The local MP donated 100 guineas to the cost. This is one of the two original strengthened cell doors surviving from the late 18th-century inside the town-house. The vaulted cells themselves, unlike the rest of the building, remain largely unaltered. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
