Scope and Content Plan of a stone circle at Balnabroich, Perth and Kinross Extensive remains of settlement and ritual activity are preserved on the moors to the north-east of Stylemouth farmstead. At least four burial cairns and a stone circle lie amongst numerous hut-circles and small cairns. All nine of the stones which make up the circle are fallen or lie at an angle, though an outlying stone some 10m to the north still remains upright. Remains of an excavation carried out in 1864 can be seen running through the centre of the circle. John Stuart, a noted 19th-century antiquary known today for his drawings of carved stones, conducted a brief excavation here in 1865. Stuart found fragments of charred wood near the centre, together with burned bones near the circle's southern margin. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
