Scope and Content Fort at Dun Chonallaich, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute Resting on a crag rising from marshland, the fort at Dun Chonallaich has a commanding view of the surrounding landscape. Dun Chonallaich occupies the irregular summit of the crag, seen here from the south-west. The enclosing wall of the fort seemingly varies in thickness, from 4.5 m on the north-west to only 1.5m on the south, and still stands to a height of 2m. Whilst appearing impressive, many forts were probably constructed as displays of prestige and power by Iron Age tribal leaders. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
