Scope and Content Standing stone, known as Macbeth's Stone, Belmont, Perth and Kinross Macbeth's Stone is a large standing stone, which is situated immediately south-west of the gate-lodge on the south-west side of the Belmont Castle grounds. There are at least forty cupmarks on its east face. This is a detail of the east side of the stone. At least forty cupmarks have been carved on this side, and the majority of them occur in this band across the stone. The stone is traditionally said to mark the grave of a 'hero' slain by MacBeth mac Findley, the King of Scots from 1040-1057. MacBeth, who in reality bears little similarity to Shakespeare's version, has several monuments in the area named after him. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
