Scope and Content Dun known as Castle Dounie, Argyll and Bute Castle Dounie is situated on the summit of a rocky knoll at the north-east end of Creag Mhor. The wall can be traced on all sides except the north-west, and it varies in thickness from 1.6m to 3.8m. The entrance was in the north-east side. This is a view of the dun showing a well-preserved section of the wall. In places it still stands to a height of 2.6m. There is an obvious join in the wall on the south-west side, and the stonework on either side is different, suggesting two groups of builders worked on the construction. After it was built, some alterations were undertaken, such as narrowing the entrance. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
