Scope and Content Standing stones at Dunamuck, Argyll and Bute To the east and north-east of Dunamuck farmsteading are three groups of standing stones on the flat ground west of the River Add. The surrounding area is particularly rich in standing stones and cup-and-ring marked rocks. Both of these standing stones are roughly aligned north-west to south-east and stand 500m north-east of Dunamuck farm. The more northerly stone, with a flattish top and straight sides, stands 2.75m tall. Its partner, with an angled top, stands 4m high. The Kilmartin valley is particularly rich in standing stones and stone circles. Their purpose remains uncertain though much debated. Some sites undoubtedly held religious or ceremonial significance, others perhaps acted as territorial or route markers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
