Scope and Content No 87 George Street was built in c.1775 as a dwelling. The interior was carried out by David Bryce, 1835 as a conversion for the jewellers, Hunter Marshall. The shopfront was updated in 1910 and 1993. The shop/retails area on the ground floor is the finest surviving 19th century shop interior in Edinburgh. Hamilton and Inches, jewellers, founded 1866. Precious metalworking (as with all metalworking) employs various techniques including sawing, cutting, forging, melting, casting, beating, soldering, filing, engraving, embossing, enameling and polishing.
