Scope and Content Interior. Blacksmith, Inaclete Road, Stornoway, Lewis. Blacksmith, Mr MacLeod, explains a branding irons. Made to mark sheep's horns next best thing after the earmarks. Now plastic tags used and so no demand for branding irons. Made by hand, Mr MacLeod made branding irons as a school boy. Mr Calum Macleod tested the branding irons on the door of the blacksmiths shop. Such blacksmiths shops or smithies or smiddys were once commonplace. They made and repaired agricultural tools, did farrier work (shoeing of horses) and repaired lorries. This is a rare example of a working blacksmith's shop.
