Scope and Content Interior. Blacksmith, Inaclete Road, Stornoway, Lewis. Blacksmith showing a finished peat cutting iron and how it is fixed to a wooden handle. This is a peat cutter used by two people to cut peat for fuel. Mr MacLeod notes that it is a type of cutter used on Lewis. He also explains that the pattern has been used since about 1920s with the knowledge of how to make it passed down from father to son. Such blacksmiths shops or smithies or smiddys were once commonplace. They made and repaired agricultural tools, did farrier work (shoeing of horses) and repaired lorries. This is a rare example of a working blacksmith's shop. Sound Colour: colour Running Time: 1 minute 25 seconds (01:25 mins)
