Scope and Content Department where the carding takes place. The video is shot from the front of the condenser where Hugh explains that after the intermediate machine 30 spools of wool are put onto the bank at the far end of the condenser. It is then fed slowly into it and carded again with the same kind of sets of rollers than in the scribbler or the intermediate machine. The fancy roller lifts the wool out of the swift and presents it to a ring doffer with 30 rings. The wool comes out of it in a wide and flat section and then goes between two sets of rubbers which rub it. At the end of the condenser 15 threads are gathered on the top spool and 15 on the one at the bottom. These unspun threads of wool have no strength but are the right thickness. The wool then goes to the spinning department. Scribbling, intermediate and condensing are all part of the carding (refining of wool fibres) process. Sound: sound Colour: colour Running time: 1,35
