Scope and Content Department where the carding takes place. After the scribbler which is the first part of the carding process, the wool is laid on a second machine called the intermediate. It has the same configuration of rollers as the scribbler except at the end where the wool comes underneath the last roller called the doffer. It is stripped off it and brought sideways in a stream through a spinning tunnel to give it a twisting. It is then put into balls of well-carded wool. 30 of them are put onto the woollen bank system that feeds slowly the condenser. The wool comes faster at the end of it and in the form of a thread.
