Scope and Content This is a view of Parkgate, 63-67 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh. This area has been completely redeveloped during the early 21st century with the building of the Scottish Parliament at the eastern end of Holyrood Road and Canongate, and subsequent associated infilling of gap sites created following demolition of various breweries along Holyrood Road. This range of flats built in 1998 fills the space between Gentle's Entry and Slater's Steps, enclosing a small courtyard. Like the other developments along Holyrood Road, the buildings conform to the long narrow burghage plots of the traditional Scottish burgh layout which can still be seen within the Canongate. It is faced in light-coloured cast stone at ground floor and harled upper storeys. The attic floor is fully glazed along the side elevations, and many flats have small balconettes enclosed by steel railings.
