Scope and Content This shows the mid-19th-century, three-storeyed tenement at 154-166 Canongate. This tenement has shops at ground-floor level, and a central arched pend which leads to Sugarhouse Close to the rear. This central bay has a two-storeyed oriel window at first and second floor which projects on stone brackets above the central pend. The crowstepped gable above is topped with a star-shaped finial. The Victorian timber shop fronts are relatively unaltered, and the tenement has retained its original eight- and 12-paned timber sash and case windows throughout.
