Scope and Content Craigmore developed as a destination for the wealthier residents and visitors to Rothesay during the 19th century. It consists of detached and semi-detached villas set in medium to large-sized plots along the shoreline. Its development was restricted by Common Hill rising steeply behind. While much of Craigmore comprises terraces of double villas, the south-eastern part has a number of la\rge detached villas sitting in extensive garden plots. This late 19th century villa at 13 Craigmore Road, known as Mount Carmel Convalescent Home, is one of these. The original block is three-bayed and two-storeyed, with full-height canted bay windows, and a balustraded columned central porch. A slightly later addition to the right is also two-storeyed and slightly set back from the main block. There are single storeyed extensions to the left. One of the key features of this villa is the balustraded parapet which runs the length of teh eaves of the main bloch and the addition to the right. Thee are also matching balustraded balconettes above the entrance porch and to the first-floor double windows in the right addition. The properties large windows take advantage of the light and the views across the bay, like so many other buildings along Rothesay's shoreline.
