Scope and Content Craigmore developed as a destination for the wealthier residents and visitors to Rothesay during the 19th century. It consists of detached and semi-detached villas set in medium to large-sized plots along the shoreline. Its development was restricted by Common Hill rising steeply behind. While much of Craigmore comprises terraces of double villas, the south-eastern part has a number of large detached or semi-detached villas sitting in extensive garden plots. This group of two- and two-and-a-half-storeyed villas display many features typical of this area of Rothesay including large bay windows, tall gables on front elevations and decorative timber bargeboards and cast-iron finials to some the villas. The large windows take advantage of the light and the views across the bay, like so many other buildings along Rothesay's shoreline.
