Scope and Content Rothesay continued to expand along the shoreline during the 19th and early 20th century. Restricted by the rocky hill and Skeoch Wood to the north/north-west, this area takes a linear form running along the shoreline, with only the main road and the Bathing Place occupying the the narrowest strip of flat land. Rothesay was still a popular tourist destination well into the 20th century, as seen by the continuing expansion during the early 1900s. This group of terraced houses at 1-7 Ballochgoy Terrace sits in an elevated position on a short cul-de-sac terrace overlooking the town centre and industrial area of Rothesay. Built in the mid-19th century, Ballochgoy Terrace is a terrace of single-storeyed houses, some of which have been extended into the attic with addition of Scotch dormers. The terrace is built of random rubble stonework, mostly with white-painted window and door dressings. Ballochgoy Terrace is the last of five cul-de-sac terraces built during the mid-19th century off the steeply sloping Ballochgoy Road leading up from the town centre. This group of terraces are surrounded by 20th- and 21st-century local authority/housing association housing development.
