Scope and Content The main focus for expansion in the outer reaches of Rothesay was along the shoreline, or along Ardbeg Road further inland, heading for Port Bannatyne. Development in the later 19th and early 20th century saw the area between Marine Place and Ardbeg Road being infilled with single- and two-storeyed, semi-detached houses. The main area where there has been 20th century infilling is in the area around the bowling green and to the north side of Ardbeg Road. This small cluster of timber-clad local authority houses on Wyndham Park probably date from the interwar period between 1920 and 1944. These semi-detached houses have been refurbished in the late 20th/early 21st century with replacement double glazing and front doors, as well as complete redecoration of the timber cladding, which still retains its distinctive brown colour. During this period (1920-44), the Scottish Special Housing Association (SSHA) was established and timber-clad Scandinavian (Swedish) kit houses became popular as a quick way of providing large numbers of houses. Many local authorities, particularly Dundee and Aberdeen Corporations, undertook the building of such schemes during this time. This style of housing can also be seen elsewhere in Rothesay, on Eden Drive, in The Bush Area of Townscape Character.
