Scope and Content  Loose-leafed yellow notebook, bound with textile tape, containing i. Printed list on single blue sheet of headings under which brochs ('broughs') are to be described. ii. 10-sheet section from notebook containing list of contents of George Petrie's notebooks, with index to monuments, with note 'The note-books were paged and this list was made out by H. Dryden in 1879'. All in Dryden's hand. iii. Descriptive notes and some small drawings to accompany plans of monuments drawn by Dryden from measurements in George Petrie's notebooks (in order): chambered cairns at Quoyness and Maes Howe, barrows at West Moss, Holm; Quarry of Boocan, Sandwick; Quoynamoan, Stenness; list of objects in Skaill Viking-age silver hoard; brochs at Breckness, Stromness and Lingrow; short cist at Waterhall, Tankerness; single long cists near Hall of Tankerness and Deldry, Greentoft, Deerness; artefacts found at the Bu of Orphir, Boroughston broch in Shapinsay and Balfour Castle; list of 'brouchs' in Harray; sketch of standing stone in North Ronaldsay; extracts and sketches from Petrie notebook 7 about Westray sites and fairy tales; barrows at Oram's Fancy and other sites in Stronsay; chambered cairn in Burray; artefacts, long cist and mounds at Hoxa, S Ronaldsay, also Howe of Hoxa; House of Halcro, S Ronaldsay; shell mounds at Keiss and Birk Hill, Caithness. also descriptive notes to accompany Dryden's and Lukis drawings of dolmen at St Germain sur Vienne, Charent, France.
