Scope and Content View of front elevation of Ballure House, Argyll and Bute This late Georgian villa, dating to the early 19th century, originally consisted of an L-plan main block together with a north service wing roofed at a slightly lower level. Since it was built there have been further additions to the building. Ballure is thought to have been built as a dower house, which is a house for a widow, by a MacDonald of Largie. The masonry is harled rubble and the hipped roof is slated. The two-storeyed three-bayed main front has a projecting central bay. This central bay has a moulded cornice at roof level, with a triangular pediment above. The main entrance doorway is at the ground level of the central bay and is framed by pilasters, or shallow rectangles which project from the wall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
