Scope and Content View of east lodge and gates at Hafton House, Argyll and Bute Originally, Hafton House was a late 18th-century mansion known as Orchard Park. It was bought around 1816 by James Hunter who had it transformed into a Tudor Gothic mansion by the architect David Hamilton (1768-1843). Other changes were made in the 1840s. An estate map of 1819 shows parallel rectangular lodges flanking the driveway to Hafton House. However, this single-storeyed L-plan lodge with chamfered window surrounds probably dates to the mid-19th century. The gate piers have crenellations which reflect those on the octagonal angle-towers and on the square tower of the house. The gate piers date to the mid-19th century.
