Scope and Content Maroon-brown leather-covered hard back photograph album of 28 thick card hinged pages with uniform sized photographs, gilt-edged, with red marbled end papers and gold tooled inner edges. The front is titled 'Views of Fenwick, all by H S P Taylor' and the ribbed spine has little gold tooled motifs - all very good quality and condition. The album contains 28 photographs and include views of buildings and landscapes in and around Fenwick in Ayrshire. Several buildings have thatched roofs. A card inside the front cover is printed 'THE STUDIO, Pollock Road, Shawlands, near Glasgow'. 12 Pollock Road was H S P Taylor's photographic studio in the early 1890s and probably earlier, and he was possibly commissioned to take the photographs. The only picture captioned is on p3 - "Birthplace of Robert Orr 1841", possibly in the handwriting of William Orr, the UP Church Minister in Fenwick from 1830 and father of the Revd. R Workman Orr. In 1880 an illustrated book was printed to celebrate the "Jubilee of the Revd. Wm Orr, Fenwick" and some of the pictures are views similar to those in this album, although there are no photographs of interiors. The photographs are undated but probably dates from before the Jubilee celebration year. Most views were identified c.1997 by members of the Kilmarnock & District History Group. Previously numbered 5219.
