Catalogue Number RC 2505 CN

Category Photographs and Off-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Henge monument at Castle Hill, Muir of Ord, Ross and Cromarty, Highland This henge is defined by a pair of curving ditches which are interrupted by two narrow entrance causeways. The entrances face towards the NW and SE. There are faint traces of a bank outside the ditches. This is a view from the air and looks towards the NW. The circuit of the ditches can be followed, and the bunkers that have been built inside them can also be seen. The interior of the henge is slightly domed and the green has been dug in to this. This henge survives as an earthwork on steeply sloping ground. It lies on the Muir of Ord golf course. A green has been created in the interior of the henge and three bunkers have been made in the ditch. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
