Scope and Content Dun at Ardifuir, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute This well-preserved remains of this dun stand on the left bank of the Ardifuir Burn, next to the steading. The location is unusual in that it is overlooked by higher ground on three sides, reducing any defensive role the dun would have had. This is a view of the staircase built within the thickness of the wall. Comprising thirteen steps, it may have given access to the wall-head. Two further steps suggest that there may have been further levels above. The site was excavated by Christison in 1904 as part of a programme of research undertaken by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. The finds included pottery sherds, a whorl and a bronze ring, all suggesting a 2nd-century AD date. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
