Scope and Content Standing stones at Dunamuck, Argyll and Bute To the east and north-east of Dunamuck farm are three groups of standing stones on the flat ground west of the River Add. The surrounding area is particularly rich in standing stones and cup-and-ring marked rocks. Both of these standing stones are roughly aligned north-west to south-east and stand 500m north-east of Dunamuck farm. The more northerly stone, with a flattish top and straight sides, stands 2.75m high. Its partner, with an angled top, is 4m high. The purpose of these monuments remains uncertain, though much debated today. Some sites undoubtedly held religious, ceremonial or some commemorative significance, others perhaps acted as territorial or route markers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
