Scope and Content Temporary camp at Gogar Green, Midlothian This Roman temporary camp lies to the W of Gogar Green. It was examined prior to the construction of the Edinburgh outer ring-road. A second camp was spotted nearby during aerial reconnaissance in 1987. This is an aerial view of the site with part of the camp showing up as a cropmark. The camp was surrounded by a typical V-shaped ditch. Fragments from a Roman coarse-ware vessel were recovered during excavation of the ditch. The camps provide additional evidence for the route of the Roman road which led W from Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
