Scope and Content Watch tower at Woodlea, Perth and Kinross This Roman watch tower is at Woodlea, near the Roman fort at Ardoch. There appears to have been two phases of occupation at the site. Similar sites are thought to be Flavian in date. This is an aerial view of the site. The double-ditched circular enclosure which surrounded the tower can be seen as a cropmark. The entrance is in the upper side. The wooden tower, 5.2 m by 4.2 m, was built on a stone, gravel and clay surface. The site was discovered through aerial survey in 1987. It has been excavated, though no datable finds were recovered. The tower was deliberately demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
