Scope and Content Fortlet at Wilderness Plantation, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fortlet is at Wilderness Plantation. It was built on an N facing ridge, overlooking the river Kelvin (to the NW) and the route up to Loch Lomond. It is on the Antonine Wall, and is halfway between the forts at Balmuildy and Cadder. This is an aerial view of the site, with cropmarks below the modern buildings showing the fortlet and a section of the Antonine Wall. Only the N, E and W sides of the fort are visible, with the S rampart no longer remaining. The fortlet was excavated in 1965 - 66. The fort appears to have had two phases of use, with the earlier timber buildings being removed and the interior cobbled. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
