Scope and Content Cross-slab known as the Maiden Stone at Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire The Maiden Stone stands by the roadside at Chapel of Garrioch. Local legend says that it was named after the daughter of the laird of Balquhain who died during her elopement. The E face is divided into four panels. The top one has what may be a centaur and the second has a notched rectangle and Z-rod. The third panel has a Pictish beast and the fourth a mirror and double sided comb.
