Scope and Content Henge monument and cairn at Cairnpapple Hill, West Lothian The henge is defined by a pair of rock-cut ditches with external banks. Its construction belonged to the second phase and was associated with an oval setting of 24 standing stones and two burials. Both burials were accompanied by a Beaker. This is an aerial view of the henge and cairn, together with their associated features. The site is now under the guardianship of Historic Scotland. This henge still survives as an earthwork and is situated on the summit of Cairnpapple Hill. In 1947-8, the interior was completely excavated and several sections were dug across the ditch. As a result, five main phases of activity were identified. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
