Scope and Content Fort at Traprain Law, East Lothian The fort is built on the summit of Traprain Law and overlooks the lowland countryside of East Lothian. The site was in use for about 1000 years. The latest fort may have been the capital of the Votadini tribe. This is a view of the site. The earliest site on the hill may have been a palisaded enclosure to the W. This was added to several times until is was as large as 16 ha. The later fort seen here covered 12 ha and was enclosed by a stone lined rampart. A hoard of Roman silver was found at the site and consists of fragment of over 100 different objects such as spoons, bowls, plates and flagons. These had been cut up as though ready for melting down. They date from the 5th century AD and are in the RMS. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
