Scope and Content Fort and bath-house at Bothwellhaugh, North Lanarkshire This Roman fort is at Bothwellhaugh. It is built on a promontory on the right bank of the River Clyde, NE of its confluence with the South Calder Water. There is an external bath-house to the NW of the fort itself. This is an aerial view of the site. The excavated bath-house can be seen on the right bank of the river, just below where the modern road bridge is. The fort itself was built in the area relatively clear of bushes on the right of the image. The site was first recorded in the late eighteenth century, and has been excavated in the 1930s and 60s. The bath-house was excavated in the mid 1970s. The garrison at the fort may have been a cohors quingenaria equitata (cavalry regiment). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
