Scope and Content Sketches mostly relate to the east side of the old West Bow, with notes on the sketches on AL 17/9. Sketch 17/10 is detached and in a different hand. The lists of tenants in the Lawnmarket have been attached by sewing to the cover of a similar sketchbook. The sketches are thought to have been prepared by Henderson for Hamilton, and they were used to prepare the continuous elevation which was engraved and published in Transactions of the Architectural Institute of Scotland 1861-62.
