Scope and Content Description about the Esquisse by Mark Scott: The idea of living in something as primitive as an Iron Age structure couldn’t be more far removed from the world which we inhabit now. But its form is a resonant response to the environment, framing the interplay of human resilience against an unforgiving and changeable landscape. The fortress is an architectural form long associated with Scotland, in modern discourse we are more familiar with the defensive structures erected during the Second World War or perhaps even the oil rigs’ that scatter our coasts and water ways. This Esquisse represents my cognitive response to the brief.
