Scope and Content The historic burgh of Rothesay developed along the High Street leading inland from the harbour area. However, the importance of the High Street diminished with the change in axis for development along Montague Street and Victoria Street parallel to the shore during the boom period of the 19th century. Consequently, development along the High Street during the 19th century was limited, and many of the original buildings were demolished in the mid-20th century to make way for large scale local authority housing developments. This redevelopment of sites along the High Street continued further south into the 21st century. Sitting on the corner of High Street and Minister's Brae, this large block of nineteen terraced three-storeyed townhouses was completed in 2009. Built for the local housing association, Fyne Homes, the development occupies the site of 19th-century tenements. Built of red brick, the first and second floors have a steeply sloping, slate-hung mansard roof.
