Scope and Content Fortlet at Durisdeer, Kirk Burn, Dumfries and Galloway The Durisdeer fortlet is the best example of its kind in the area. Built on a steep-sided ridge, it overlooks the pass through which a Roman road once ran. The road may have been is use around AD 85 to 105. This aerial view shows the remains of the fort. It consists of a single large rampart with an outer ditch which is partly rock-cut. These enclose a rectangular area. The entrance is to the north-east and had a protective ditch 7 metres in front of it. The fort was probably constructed during the reign of the Emperor Antonine, sometime after AD 142.
