Stone near church at Birsay.

MS 28/319/6/2

Description Stone near church at Birsay.

Date 17/7/1851

Collection Records of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland

Catalogue Number MS 28/319/6/2

Category Manuscripts

Scope and Content Thanks Petrie for letter of 14 July and explains that it is not a Pictish symbol stone as he had hoped. He is publishing a volume of charters for the Spalding Club and sends Petrie a copy of a Norwegian deed, asking for comments, and promises to send a copy of the volume. 'If the little scrap of Queen Mary's has not been printed, I would include it in the volume if you would explain the place where the original is' (see MS 28/319/ 6/6). Hopes to hear the results of 'your cairn opening'. 'The Lead Plate is quite distinct - and Munchs corroboration of your own theory is very interesting.'
