Scope and Content Letter and enclosing sheet (with remains of sealing wax) from Nicholas Carlisle, Somerset Place, London, to Thomas Johnston, Dumfries.Thanks Johnston for his letter and box containing three fragments of stone, but is unable to comment on them. Pencil note on enclosing sheet explaining that Carlisle was Secretary to the Society of Antiquaries [of London], keeper of printed books in the British Museum and Gentleman of the Privy Chamber. Envelope labelled in different hand 'Year 1826. Letter from the Society of Antiquaries to Grandfather Johnston".
