The company originated in the Central Excavation Unit (CEU), later AOC, of Historic Buildings and Monuments. The Collection includes material from this time. Now independent, the organisation works in areas such as housing development, road schemes, railway and airport projects, quarries and community heritage. Research interests include Scottish wetlands, cancer in the eighteenth century, construction methods in prehistoric architecture, flint knives and native oak and pine dendrochronology. AOC Archaeology Group has offices in Aberdeen, Bristol, Carlisle, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Newcastle, Southampton, West Midlands and York, with the head office being in Edinburgh.
