Description Letters from Daniel Wilson. 2. 27 Nov 1849. Thanks Petrie for his replies to the above queries. Hopes to visit Orkney. Sees little hope of the Society extending its excavations to Orkney. 3. 27 December 1849. Has received Petrie's communication on Orkney Antiquities and is interested to hear of Petrie's contributions to the John o'Groat Journal. Asks whether Petrie's 'extracts relating to the Meetings of District Courts at the Standing Stones' were published in the now defunct Scottish Journal. Mentions Lieut. Thomas's careful drawings and the Marquess of Breadalbane's donations to the Society's museum. Requests permission to engrave Petrie's drawings of Wideford Hill for his own book. 4. 21 Feb 1850. Petrie's paper on Wideford Hill is to be read to the Society in March. Encloses cutting about recent discovery at Dunfermline Abbey. 5. 28 Aug 1850. Encloses proof of engraving of Wideford Hill for Petrie's approval, and an abstract of a paper by Wilson read to the British Association. Asks for information about human skulls from Orkney mounds. In pencil in Petrie's hand is a note about the eagle carving from Oxstrow broch. 6. 19 April 1851. Requests information about provenance of skull and stone implements excavated by Petrie near the Stones of Stenness. 7. Tuesday (no date), from Elm Cottage, Whitehouse Loan. Suggesting a meeting while Petrie is in Edinburgh, and giving him Captain F W L Thomas's address. Part of unwritten sheet has been cut out and a pencil list of household goods and costs has been added in pencil. 8. 13 April 1853.
