Description SKETCH BOOK 3: DONALD LAMONT POSTCARD ALBUM (c.f.PA 118): album with green board covers decorated with a coloured floral motif containing sixty six pages each printed with a windmill and flowers and slotted to take three postcards. Many of the earlier postcards are unused souvenir cards made in Germany, reproduced from water-colour views of European cities and towns. One view is of "Sheep ranching in Western Canada," and there is one of The Big Tree, Stanley Park, Vancouver with two men in a pony trap. Another shows "The Incarnation Lama" with a note that the card came "from Dr. Graham, our Guild Missionary in India who spoke here recently." There is also one showing "The picturesque track to Olinda Falls, Victoria" Australia. Some photographic views of scenes in Germany are included. There are also postcards sent to the Rev. and Mrs. Lamont at the Manse, Coldingham, Berwickshire. These include views of the suspension bridge, Forres; Millheugh Bridge, Blantyre; Slains Castle; Peterhead; the interior of the orphan's home church, Bridge of Weir; De Quincey Cottage, near Lasswade, and a photograph of a sundial, postmarked Lasswade 1906 on which the message reads "Emily's parents gave me the sundial, A. A. ". Also shown are The Manse, Old Deer; white cattle at Cadzow Forest, Hamilton; Bridge of Don; Coldingham village in 1904; the lake at Pitfour; Inverfarigaig Pier; St Andrews; Inverugie Castle; Loch Katrine; Belfield House, Kilmarnock, 1905; Calton Hill, Edinburgh; Parish church Bothwell; Crieff Hydropathic; Tomintoul; Brig o' Doon tea gardens, Alloway; the Tweed, Peebles; the Monastery, Fort Augustus; the entrance to Glen Nevis, Fort William; Helmsdale and Gartymore; the Parish church, Bowmore; Peebles from south; the Parish church, St Andrews; the King and Duke of Connaught at the Royal Review 18th September, 1905; Lasswade church; Lovers' Walk, Ayr; Girvan harbour; Lady Jean's cottage, Newbattle, with a note that it "had nine nice windows!".
