Scope and Content Detail of a fireplace in Bridgend House, Main Street, Perth Bridgend House, a large early 19th-century villa, was demolished c.1966. It was the home of Peter and Jessie Richardson, who were the uncle and aunt of John Ruskin (1819-1900), Victorian art critic and artist. He spent part of his childhood there. This fireplace has a wooden surround with applied Classical motifs, including urns, a swag of leaves and a mythical scene. The inner part is made of cast iron. The fireplace dates from c.1820, around the time when the house was first built. John Ruskin also stayed with his aunt at No 10 Rose Terrace, where she moved to after the death of her husband. Ruskin was later married in Perth, in Bowerswell House, on the 10th April 1848. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
