Catalogue Number SC 382646

Copy of D 15669 CN

Scope and Content Drawing of a cross-incised stone from Staplegordon, Dumfries and Galloway Little remains of the old parish church of Staplegordon, its site indicated by a grassy rectangular platform near the centre of the burial-ground. Within the graveyard are a number of fine 18th-century headstones. Built into the burial-ground wall, this roughly kite-shaped boulder bears an incised cross. The stone is thought to be an Early Christian grave-marker, though the stone may have been brought here from elsewhere. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
