Scope and Content Pencil sketch in sketchbook with drawings made during a tour of Orkney and Shetland in August 1801, likely by James Skene of Rubislaw. Page 4: titled 'Castle of Birsa seat of the Earls of Orkney'. View from beside the Boardhouse Burn westwards into the Bay of Birsay, with a bridge over the burn (replaced in 1872), St Magnus Church (1654) and the late 16th-century Earl's Palace on the right. In the left middle distance is what appears to be a ruined broch beside a cottage. A dog is chasing geese on the burn in the forground.
