Scope and Content Aerial view of Aberdour Castle, Fife This aerial view from the south-south-west, taken in 1966, shows the castle in the centre, with the walled garden to the right, and the terraces of the south garden in front, with its beehive dovecot. In front of the walled garden is the medieval parish church with its graveyard. In this view of the castle the c.1570 wing is to the left, with the 14th-century tower behind and to the left, and the c.1635 extension to the right. Part of Aberdour Station, opened in 1890 by the Forth Bridge Railway, can be seen to the left. The railway runs between the castle and the houses in the background. The oldest part of Aberdour Castle is a 14th-century tower on a rhomboidal plan, which was extended to the east in about 1570 by the 4th Earl of Morton, and again in about 1635 by the 6th Earl. To the south are the remains of a terraced garden, with a beehive dovecot, and to the east of that is a walled garden. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
