Scope and Content Undated ink drawing annotated 'Edzell Castle. These marks are mostly from the "Stirling Tower" or the oldest part of the building, which probably belongs to the 15th century'. 'Auchenleck Castle, (Monikie) Auchenleck, or Affleck, is a building of apparently the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. It is pretty entire, and a singularly interesting tower, with two bed-closets and a little oratory all in the thickness of the wall'. 'Inverquharity castle, near Kirriemuir, is probably a contemporary erection with that of Auchenleck but of greater extent'. 'Vayne Castle, in Ferne, is a ruin partly belonging to the 16th & partly to the 17th century'.
