Scope and Content Undated ink drawing annotated 'The Old Castle of Duffus was an earl seat of the Lord De Moravia probably the ruins from which the following marks are copied, are those of a building of the 14th century'. 'Cawdor Castle - Nairnshire. In 1450 or 1454, the Thane of Cawdor had a royal licence to build a town here; another two marks are upon the oldest portion of the building, frequently repeated'.
