Scope and Content Originally known as Kamesburgh, Port Bannatyne grew up as a fishing village to the north-west of the main town of Rothesay. However, during the 19th century, when Rothesay's popularity as a tourist destination and a pleasant place to live by the seaside was at its peak, the town stretched out to join up the coastal strip between Port Bannatyne in the north-west and Ascog in the south-east. This modern house at 15a High Road has been designed to incorporate modern versions of features reminiscent of the archtiect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, including the shallow-pitched roofs with deep overhanging eaves, the use of ironwork on the balconies to first-floor windows (although plain rather than decorative) and the curved full-height bay window to the right-hand bay. This style has been adopted in other modern developments elsewhere in Rothesay, in particular at 1-22 Craignethan in the Craigmore Area of Townscape Character, where the 19th-century villas on Mount Stuart Road also display many Alexander 'Greek' Thomson style features.
