Scope and Content Visit to Rousay and other islands. Petrie lent him a list of Orkney words. Asks how Petrie got on at Aberdeen, reading his paper, and offers to give it greater circulation. Mentions Picts House at Farraclet in Rousay with standing stone of Getness nearby. Saw the Orkney collections in the Edinburgh Museum, including the Skaill hoard from Sandwick. 'The Sheriff has a notion that gold was also found at Sandwick, have you any reason for thinking so?' Would like to have something from Petrie for the Saga Book. 2. 17 January 1860, on black-edged paper. First vol of saga is nearly ready. Will write to Sheriff Robertson soon. Signature has been cut out.
